Spectacular English Majolica heron pitcher. this item is unmarked but clearly is of George Jones design. Excellent mold with clean strong detail and color. Glaze without grazing. Size approximately 9 inches in height.

A superb pair of matched English majolica vases with lions heads. Mottled green glaze with yellow and green incorporated. Paw feet on triangular bases. Condition is excellent no restorations. Approximately 7 inches tall.

Scots samplers perserved the Elizabethan flower motifs way after they were abandoned elsewhere, possibly because of the Jacobean associations of the stylized Rose motif. This one was executed by Elizabeth McAndrews and is circa 1830. Elizabeth also includes the Lord's Prayer and her genealogy in the design of the sampler

A superbly executed sampler, this peice was executed by Catherine Patterson of Bonnyrig age 12 in 1852. nder the alphabets, Catherine includes her genealogical history in the form of crowned initials. Particularly noteworthy is the distinctive marine motif. Catherineincludes a sailor, standing inexplicably on a chair whit the words "Royal Tar" framing the dimunitive sailor's head. This sampler is among the earliest known. the animal and floral design motifs all come from J.Sibmacher's book, Newes Modelbuch on Kuppfer Gemacht with was published within 60 years after Gutenberg invented the printing press. The stitch patterns which comprise about a quarter of the design are Elizabethan. Many of the samplers were done in long bands with the stitches running across the narrow part. Silk embroidered pictures were the epitome of a girl's needlework education. These were generally executed after the girl had mastered counted sitch embroidery. This example features a family travelling through the countryside. Chenille and silver threads through out. One tiny split in the silk otherwise perfect. New frame and mat. Image size 16 x 17 inches. Frame size 22 x 24 inches.

A Lovely English Marking Sampler with motto and floral and animal elements. Circa 1830. Catharine Thomlinson embroidered f ive alphabets and included her town name. Expected browning, some scattered holes, none unsightly. the largest is at the bottom and right below the embroidery. More pictures can be furnished upon request.
